Curious about how props are made for stage productions? Join us for a hands-on workshop where you’ll create your very own prop inspired by Beetlejuice! In this workshop you'll craft a "Handbook for the Recently Deceased" or an aged spell book of your choice. Get ready to unleash your creativity and embrace the messiness of prop-making!
Recommended grades: 4 - 9
Supplies needed:
*Per student
1 used book (hard cover recommended)
Tissue paper (2-3 sheets, light color)
Paintbrush (2-3)
Modge Podge glue (1 small container)
Acrylic Paints (a few colors in a similar shade of your choice - light and dark)
Paper plates (for paint)
Water containers and paper towels (for painting)
Print out of book label "Handbook for the Recently Deceased" or Spellbook titles
About the artist: Angela Zacher is a home grown, proud Edmontonian that loves the magic of live theatre! She has been a teacher for 18 years with Edmonton Public Schools offering many workshops on Drama community and Special FX makeup. She has also been a part of countless productions in schools, the Walterdale theatre, PETS productions, Fringe festival, and camps at the Citadel theatre. Jube School Presents: Lightsaber Training with The FloWarrior
Unleash your inner Jedi with lightsaber master The FloWarrior! Using a practice staff/saber, this workshop will explore the fundamentals of lightsaber technique. This class will help students build confidence, connect to their bodies, practice skill development, and express themselves creatively through movement.
Recommended grades: 1- 6
Supplies needed: Each student needs a stick-like object that isn't sharp (pool noodles work great). Students need enough space so that they aren't hitting each other accidentally with their practice sabers.
About the artist: With over a decade of experience under his belt, The FloWarrior has earned a reputation as one of Canada's top fire and flow arts performers. Fusing his passion for dance, martial arts and music, he has created his own unique brand of 'martial artistry’ through years of training and dedication to his craft. A world-renowned innovator in a number of unique disciplines including folding fans, rice hats, lightsabers, and the Force Leash; he continues to push the limits of what is possible through movement art and object manipulation.

Jube School Presents: Sing Your Song: Storytelling through Songwriting with Alixandra Cowman
In this workshop, students will collaborate to create a new song by drawing inspiration from their surroundings. Using what they see, hear, and experience, they will work together to craft lyrics that reflect their shared observations and emotions.
Recommended grades: 3-6
Supplies needed: Paper and pencils
About the artist: Alixandra Cowman (she/her) is an award-winning composer and theatre artist based in Mohkinstsis (Calgary, Alberta). She is constantly interested in discovering how music and sound can enhance, influence, and alter live storytelling. Her original compositions have been featured in Alberta Kitchen Party (Alberta Theatre Projects); Parts & Labour (Fieldwork); and House (Seadreamer no Productions). Alixandra's original musical written with playwright Cayley Wreggitt entitled Home For The Holidays received its world premiere at Lunchbox Theatre in December 2022. Home For The Holidays received 2 Betty Mitchell Awards for both Best Sound Design/Composition and Best Musical. Currently, she is in the midst of writing a horror-inspired folk musical set around Christmas with playwright Kodie Rollan, entitled Little Elves. Alixandra can usually be found strumming some instrument or another in whatever beam of sunlight she can find, a cup of coffee within arm's reach.

How does a writer create a story from nothing? They don’t! They borrow from their life experiences. Just in time for the winter holidays, Marty Chan shares his tips on how to take life events and observations, and turn them into ideas for a play. Learn how to transform an ordinary winter activity into a fun and festive story with conflict and drama!

About the artist: Marty Chan writes books, plays, and TV shows. For twenty years, he’s worked for theatres across Canada, including the Citadel Theatre, Workshop West, Cahoots Theatre, Richmond Gateway, and Theatre Passe Muraille. He wrote the Sterling Award winning kids play A Hero for All. In fiction, he’s best known for his bestselling thriller, Haunted Hospital, as well as his Marty Chan Mystery series. Marty works and lives in Edmonton with his wife Michelle and their cats, Hugo and Minnie.

Jube School Presents: Nutcracker Ballet with Stephanie Lilley
Join local professional dancer, Stephanie Lilley, for an online follow-along Nutcracker dance class. Stephanie will use storytelling and easy-to-follow dance technique to guide students through this classic tale. This class is designed for grades 2-5 and is inclusive of all genders. Students do not require any equipment nor special footwear. This is sure to be a festive, energizing, and enriching experience!
Recommended grades: 2 - 5

About the artist: Stephanie Lilley is the 2017 Mayor's Award for the Arts nominee, and is the founder and artistic director of Viva Dance Company. Under her leadership, the company has performed hundreds of times and is a staple in the Edmonton arts community. In addition to The Edmonton Singing Christmas Tree, Fringe Festivals across the country, galas, and charity events, the company also brings dance to new markets such as hockey arenas (Edmonton Oil Kings) and fashion shows (Western Canada Fashion Week). Steph strives to empower dancers on and off the stage and advocates for equity for underrepresented dance artists.
Stephanie was part of the world-renowned Ukrainian Shumka Dancers (one of the Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium’s resident companies) as a dancer, choreographer, and artistic consultant during which time she toured across Canada

Each student will create an animal mask that reflects details from the imaginative worlds they have discovered through body-based learning. One piece of 8.5 x 11 fun foam or construction paper per student
Scissors, glue, and colourful paper to design the masks
Elastic or string and a hole punch
White glue or glue sticks for paper
Low-temperature glue guns if using fun foam

About the Artist: Jacqueline (she/her) is a director, performer, creator, arts educator, and clown from Treaty Seven territory. She has taught workshops in clown, physical theatre, and creation across the country, from Comox to Montreal. Jacqueline is a graduate of the BFA program in Acting at the University of Alberta and completed her MFA in theatre studies at the University of Calgary. She loves making art in unexpected places.

Jube School Presents: Emotional Storytelling through Set Design with Cassie Holmes
In this immersive workshop, students dive into the art of designing with emotion. Working with our expert, Cassie, students will explore how theatre designers bring stories to life through lighting, color, and mood.
Together, they’ll examine real-world projects by professional designers, learning how to make creative choices that evoke powerful feelings.
Students will even have a chance to draw their own sets that are based on emotions! Join us and unleash the storyteller within!
Supplies needed: Anything to colour with (crayons, pencil crayons, and markers). Paper of any colour will work.

About the Artist: Meet Cassie Holmes (she/her)! She is a scenographer, theatre artist, designer, creator, and collaborator. Cassie’s work spans all areas of theatre design, projection, sound, costume, set, and lighting. Cassie works with the Nation accessArts Center as a design consultant and technical translator, working to help curb barriers in design. She also works as an educator and consultant in the design, accessibility, and lighting of diverse skin tones. Jube School Presents: Glass Torchworking with Alana Biffert
In this online glass flameworking workshop, Alana will be demonstrating the creation of a small glass hummingbird sculpture. Students will be led through the tools and materials used in glass art, with each stage of the process explained. As a video demonstration plays, the artist will take questions to help students connect with the techniques and artistry of glasswork. This session aims to introduce students to the basics of glass art in a fun way.
Recommended Grades: 7 - 9
Supplies needed: No supplies needed - this is a lecture-stye workshop.
About the Artist: Alana Biffert’s studio practice is expansive, often driven by the exploration of various techniques. Biffert’s accumulative skills are built in both hard and soft glass. Her obsession with this material is mirrored by the depth of her skill set, materialized through her passion for the Arts. A European upbringing constructed the first decade of Biffert’s life in the glass culture of Malta, a small island in the Mediterranean Sea. Glass engulfed her childhood with a dream of becoming a glassblower. Biffert took home a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Glass from Alberta University of the Arts in 2008. Through volunteering locally, she landed a life-changing job as a Glass Technician at Red Deer College. She has attended Corning Museum of Glass as well as other well-known studios, as she continues to build her knowledge and understanding of this demanding material. Her goal is to learn all there is to know about glass.

In this workshop, JUNO-nominated singer-songwriter & producer Josh Sahunta will go through the process of producing a song from start to finish using various music software technologies. This will be a unique and interesting look at how music & technology work in tandem to create what you hear on the radio and in movies & TV.
Recommended Grades : 7 and up

About the Artist: "When it comes to setting the bar high, JUNO-nominated indie-pop artist Josh Sahunta never lets his feet touch the ground. Fall and Halloween Wreaths
Jube School Presents: Guided Drawing "Fall Wreaths" with Rozzie Lee
Let's design our own fall and Halloween wreaths! This activity includes two wreaths, one for fall and one for Halloween!
Recommended Grades: 2 - 6
Supplies needed: Bold black marker, colouring supplies, and have something round to trace a circle that fits inside that paper. Eg. Yogurt container lid/wide part of container (students can share tracing tool) and 2 pieces of paper for 2 separate wreaths.
